Prophet Nuh (AS) was one of the many prophets and messengers of Islam sent from Allah (SWT).

Idolatry

Before Prophet Nuh (AS) was sent, his tribe had many great people. After they died, people started making statues of them in their remembrance. Gradually, through the generations, people forgot what the statues were for, and Shaytan decieved the people into worshipping them. To guide this tribe, Allah (SWT) sent Prophet Nuh (AS) to them.

Preaching

Prophet Nuh (AS) began preaching to his people both verbally and by example. He would praise God consistently and he urged his people to do the same, warning his tribe of the punishment they would face if they did not mend their ignorant ways. A few people accepted his message, but most powerful and wealthy people of the tribe did not. Nuh (AS) preached for over 9 centuries, however most people still did not accept his message.

Building of the Ark and the Great Flood

One day, Nuh (AS) received a revelation from Allah (SWT), in which he was told that no one would believe the message now except for those who have already submitted to Allah (SWT). Allah (SWT) told him that a terrible flood would come, and he would have to build a large ship, which would save him and his followers from the flood. Nuh (AS) went out in search of material with which to build the vessel. When Nuh (AS) began building the Ark, the people who saw him at work laughed at him even more than before. They thought he was surely a madman – they could not find any other reason why a man would build a huge vessel when no sea or river was nearby. Although Nuh (AS) was now very old, he continued to work tirelessly until, at last, the Ship was finished. After the ship was finished, all the believers got on the ship, and were safe from the flood, while all the disbelievers were washed away in the flood.
